Hanson Auditorium complete with Gatti Mosaic

November 22nd, 2008 08:03:36 pm

The Coronado High Auditorium is now complete. Not only did it get a new name, the Eugene L. Hanson Auditorium but it also recieved its 20-foot by 26-foot mosaic composed of approximately 133,000 Venetian glass tiles. During the ceremony speakers included Dr John Baracy SUSD Superintendent, Karen Beckvar Governing Board President, Jim Newcomer, Janet Blum, members of the Hanson family and Joe Gatti. One comment from Mr Gatti was, “I’m very pleased that (the contractors) did save it. It seems to be in a prominent place,” said Gatti, now 88 and living in Mesa. “I thought that it might last forever.” With it now on the new auditorium forever is again possible. Below are some photos of the new building.
