Members in Attendance:  Karen Beckvar, Thomas Dunbar, Dave Hochstrasser, David Ortega, Kevin Schirmer, Bob Swan

CHS Administrator:  CHS Principal John Biera

The meeting opened at 9AM at the home of Board member Karen Beckvar.   Karen volunteered to act as facilitator for the meeting.

1.With input from CHS Principal, John Biera, the Board looked at what was needed in order to further develop a focus for CFFF.  Examples of need follow:

Money for teacher's materials and equipment is needed.  There are items and issues not

aided by the bond over-ride and Title 1 funds which need to be addressed and funded.

 a.        "Turnitin.com",  a computer program designed to identify plagarism.

b.         Various instructional and SAT/ACT prep workshops for teachers.

c.         Requests from advisors for machines to help in recruitment and information.

d.         Bookshelves for English teachers

e.         Teacher training (AVIT) designed to help "C" students to achieve their goals

f.          Scientific calculators

g.         More powerful microscopes for Science Dept.

h.         Golf cart for campus access.

2. PTO at Coronado could provide valuable input.  The President is the parent of students at Coronado, Supai and Tonalea.

3. A reminder from Board member Mike S.:  donors like a specific  project to support.

4. Discussion of General Purposes of CFFF:

a.         Help students with programs and scholarships.

b.         When compared with similar programs (e.g. Arcadia Pride) others have Board members

from feeder schools AND others have one major income source.  (Arcadia Pride manages  the ads in

student directories from all involved schools.)

5. CFFF Mission Statement:

To enhance the educational experiences of Coronado Complex student and teachers by providing resources for institutional and post secondary opportunities.

6.  CFFF Vision Statement:

All Coronado students will have the opportunity to pursue their college or career aspirations/dreams.

7. CFFF Proposed Goals:

a.Maintain and facilitate connections with alumni and business/community connections as sources of support for Coronado Complex students and faculty.

1.         CHS has some in place:  General Dynamics, Wells Fargo, Scottsdale Healthcare, Motorola & others.

2.         Possible forms of assistance from them:

   a)         Donations of $ or equipment

   b)         Obtain volunteer help from these employers.

            b.         Fund "X" projects per year.

            c.         Fund "X" scholarships per year.

            d.         Create an endowment.

            e.         Expand CFFF organization to all Coronado Complex schools.

With all of this in mind, Board was divided into two subgroups and given the task of developing strategies and action plans for this coming year.  Here are their reports:

A.        Alumni and Community Connections

1.         CFFF should operate as a conduit for the 50th Coronado Anniversary events, e.g. dinner at Pinnacle Peak Patio for up to 2-3,000 people and possible 49th anniversary  Homecoming dinner (Sept. 17th, 2019) at Flicka's.

2.         Board member David Ortega suggested a "buzz word" "DON-nation" (Donation!) to be

used in fundraising efforts, as a reminder of who we are!!  "DON-nation campaign to

involve Coronado Complex teachers, students and community members.  Moved, Seconded, Voted and           Passed (MSVP) David will work on a logo.

B.         Funding of Projects and Scholarships

            1.         Fundraising -- email list

                        Once a year "ask"...

Check-offs for specific contribution options, e.g.  general gift, annual

scholarship, specific projects (teacher training, classroom materials and

                                    equipment).

            2.         Board needs to decide on a "Signature Event" for CFFF fundraising.

                        a.         Private showing/opening night through Harkins Theaters

                        b.         Concert by Marshall Trimble?  (Coronado auditorium seats 800.)

            3.         Scholarship:  Goal to award $4000/year for one student.  This year we will likely have                                 $1000 in interest growth and will solicit direct contributions from Board members,  Rotary members and others for the remainder.

Meeting was adjourned.  Next CFFF Board meeting will be Wednesday, August 4th, 5:30pm, Principal's Conference Room.  Let Kevin or Dixie know if you cannot attend.
